History

The history of Community Gospel Church goes back to 1977 when a few families who were attending a church in Baltimore wanted to meet together for Bible studies during the week closer to where they lived. The studies kept growing in numbers until it became difficult to meet in homes. These families wanted to start a church that was closer in location to them.

In 1978 with the blessing of the church they had been attending, the people invited Rev. Tom Nelson and his family to come and be their pastor. In August of that year Community Gospel Church officially began.

In the following years the church rented a Lutheran and Seventh Day Adventist church to meet in, as well as a school auditorium. From 1985 until 1990 Rev. Michael Scholes served as pastor, with Rev. Thomas Brazell succeeding him. In 1991 the church bought a building that at one time had been a Lutheran church. Community Gospel Church began to thrive in its own building, and today under the leadership of Pastor Paul Butler and Assistant Pastor Jan Drayer, Community Gospel continues to reach out to the greater Baltimore area and beyond.

Community Gospel Church is affiliated with Elim Fellowship, a non-denominational network of churches and ministries located in Lima, New York.
